Meeting Minutes

Is there an agenda? You ask –

Not that it’s mattered in the past.

You plop yourself on a swiveling chair,

Try to look serious, no blank stares.

The meeting is long, don’t get lost,

Stay focused and every item will be crossed.

You click your pen and stifle a yawn,

Does anyone else think it’s too warm?

What’s next? Let’s move on.

Nods, notes and a never-ending drone

Of his or her monotone.

The meeting is long, don’t get lost,

Stay focused and every item will be crossed.

You risk a glance at your phone

And read an old e-mail to block

Their condescending tones.

You finally send a message to a friend:

What’s for lunch?

Tomato soup, a roast beef sandwich –

You’re craving warm bread.

The noise startles you, you jump!

Everyone’s pushing their chair,

The door is open,

The room floods with cold air.

You made it, you’re alive.

Another meeting is over,

You’ve survived.
